My office partner and I use the term "flow preference" sometimes, because
what I see happening - as least in the first few days - is that baby gets a
fast "gulp, gulp" flow from a bottle and then has to "suck, suck, suck,
swallow" at the breast containing colostrum. This is SO aggravating and some
babies can handle going back and forth and some can't. We also see others who
"clamp down" on the bottle nipple to slow the flow and then "chomp at the
breast". I am enjoying this thread even though it would be better if we
could do a hands- on workshop type of discussion. Anyone want to video tape
some babies and do this as a conference session?
