Michelle Meeks asks for input.
People who were breastfed have better success with their transplants, than
people who were not. There is not much data on people who underwent
transplants while still being breastfed. Breastmilk helps maintain fluid
balance, is less of a burden to the kidneys than any other food, and need
not be stopped until immediately before surgery, so the recipient will be in
optimal shape for it.
In your son's case, Michelle, it would seem ideal that you are also the
donor. I'm guessing the biggest challenge will be for you, maintaining a
milk supply through surgery and post-op. But a more perfect match, and a
more perfectly primed transplant candidate, are hard to imagine.
