Gunda,
New Jersey's own Cathay Knipscher has worked with a Spanish-speaking staff
member to develop a "Breastfeeding Spanish" booklet. It gives many common
phrases and questions a health professional uses with a nursing mom, in
English, Spanish, and phonetic Spanish. With this booklet you can get pretty
far into the basics with a mom.
The last I remember, our NJ Breastfeeding Task Force was planning to produce
and distribute the booklet. When it's available, I'll post the news on
Lactnet.
I think we need a crash course in speaking and using "Breastfeeding Spanish,"
though. Does anyone know...has any state WIC ever organized such a thing?
Lots of people (myself included) have had a little Spanish exposure in school
but just don't feel sure of trying it out. A half-day workshop at a state
meeting might give us confidence.
