Susan Brault posts on a mother being treated with the above drugs for a
post-CS abscess, three weeks after surgery.
My money is on negative blood cultures, but even if they were positive, I
would breastfeed.  Especially if they were positive, in fact, and the mother
might want to consider treating herself with her own milk as well.  The milk
will be chock full of antibodies to the bugs in any case.
We routinely use demerol IM post CS in our hospital, give it as needed, no
real limits, and we don't think twice about effects on babies.  It goes just
fine.  I wouldn't worry about it at all, unless the baby is showing signs of
intoxication (hard to rouse, will not feed).
