Hi!
I've also been lurking for a short while. My name is Giosi Di Meglio. I
am a pediatrician and am currently at University of Rochester doing a
Fellowship in Adolescent Medicine. I have always been a staunch supporter
of breastfeeding, but didn't realize how little I knew until my daughter
Tovah was born last July and had lots of trouble latching on correctly.
My LC was a gem. Her skills and knowledge, together with the trouble I had,
peaked my interest in the subject.
I am currently developing a project at the Uof R to support teen
moms who choose to breastfeed in the hopes of increasing the duration of
breastfeeding. We currently have a 24% breastfeeding rate in these young
women at discharge, while <2% are breastfeeding at 6 wks. If you have any
ideas on this issue, please do not hesitate to share them either privately
or on lactnet.
Glad to be on board. Giosi
