In our ongoing study of oversupply/overfeeding syndrom we have seen a great
deal of children dx with GE reflux get better when the volume in decreased.
Using one breast per feeding.
I hate to see docs so quick to use medication, especially Reglan (Have you
ever looked at the adverse reactions and side effects of this drug? Holy cow
it sounds like thorazine) The rational for the medication is to prevent the
bradycardia and apnea associated with GE reflux.
In the past we always put babies upright tilted slightly to the left to
assist with gravity drainage of the stomach. For most of them it worked.
Cereal is supposed to help thicken the stomach contents to prevent reflux.
One premie mom was told to add one teaspoon of rice cereal to each ounce of
expressed milk, because the baby was vomiting. No GE reflux work up was done.
The Dr did not start any medications.
