I got up on my day off to go to a 7:15 AM Newborn Committee meeting where we
were reviewing an infant care book that will be used as a
competency/training manual for our maternity nurses. Under bottle feeding
it said "Some mothers will elect not to breastfeed but rather to
bottle-feed. Remember: happy, healthy and well-adjusted babies have been
brought up on each method."

I told them I wanted that statement removed from the book because it implies
that there is no difference between breastfeeding and formula feeding and
that wasn't true. The nurses and their attitudes (and actions) have a
tremendous effect on the parents. It does both the nurses and the parents a
disservice to imply something that isn't true.

I expected an argument. I didn't get one. (I was ready, believe me) It's
been taken out of the book.

Going one small victory at a time.
