Thank you for the information gleamed from ILCA on the physiological size of
the stomach. Nurses love that kind of stuff. I will pass it on at our next
staff meeting.

Speaking of which, I have been asked to put together a hospital policy on
documentation of any water or formula given on the medication record and in
the baby's chart, with the lot number. One of our parents was given a bottle
of expired glucose water. The family returned it and requested another. Was
given a bottle that had some sediment, white filmy stuff floating in bottle.
Upset family and MJ,the makers of the product, are backpedalling fast. I
was visited by Risk Management and thought I'd take advantage of the
situation and gave them the new list of infant formula recalls. Also put a
copy under my bosses door. I explained to the RM people that formula is like
any other drug...a foreign protein...and it should be documented on the MAR.
They asked me if any other hospitals are following that practice. ARE THEY?
Please let me know! Thanks, Loni Denman, RN, IBCLC
