Casinmorphin -- found in the casein fraction of milk, so that casein dominant
formulas do have this substance which can cause deep sleep in babies. That's
why the mothers will tell you that "I was starving my baby -- she cried and
cried, and I nursed and nursed, and then she just SUCKED DOWN 1/2 ounce of
formula and went right to sleep and slept for FIVE hours." I think it's
designed so that baby calves will be quiet and not the let predators get them
while mama cows are off doing whatever it is that mama cows do.
