I second the reccomendation of Dr. Charles Berlin. He is, or was, at
Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa. and was a member of the AAP
committtee that drew up the list of drugs for breastfeeding moms. I believe
he was actively involved in doing drug research.
Last night I had a mom in my breastfeeding class who was expecting her
second child. With her first child she only bf for 5 days because the pain
was so severe. She says it was shooting pain in the top part of the breast
and that she also had severe uterine cramping. Her nipples were not sore,
but the pain would begin as soon as the baby latched and not let up for the
entire feeding. Any ideas as to what would be causing this? I asked about
Yeasst, but she had no symptoms. She also did not expereince let-downs, and
5 days seemed a little soon for over active or ductal refill pain.
