Does anyone have information or references regarding whether there is a
shortage of lactation consultants nationwide? Our hospital plans to give
the RN-LCs a pay raise this summer because of the shortage of nurses
nationwide. I was told that the non-RN LCs will probably not get the
adjustment unless we can show that there is a shortage of LCs.
I'm happy for the nurses getting their raise, but as long as we are
functioning in the same job description as IBCLCs(my background is B.S.
Foods & Nutrition), I feel we should get equal raises and I believe the
nurse LCs agree, but of course, they won't refuse the raise if the non-RNs
don't get it and I don't blame them.
Any suggestions or info or supply/demand of LCs?
Cheryl Bean-Moody, BS, IBCLC
