I am a new LLL leader. I have lurked here for over 2 years (while i was in
training) and now i can post!! YIPPEE!!
The calls i have received lately are mom's whose dr's have told them to give
the babies cereal at 6 weeks so that mom can sleep! I have told them that
the cereal has less fat and calories than the breastmilk (these mom's were
also concerend about their supply becauset he ped scared them into it). I
tell them that the cereal will just sit in their tummy and make them feel
full longer, therefor they get less breastmilk and their supply goes down
while the baby gets less calories. This kinda 'scared' them into NOT giving
the cereal.
I do not want to scare the ladies. They seem to get that from their own ped
as it is (not all peds are like this i know, just the ones that have called
me)
I can't figure out what the ped is thinking! ANy idea's how to get this
across the to the ladies without scaring them to thinking that in the long
run they will be starving their baby?
thanks
dawn
