Sounds like the question out of the lactation course I'm currently doing and
the answer was "tongue-tie".
Whilst baby may be attached properly,if the baby has a short/tight frenulum
.It prevents the tongue from moving forward to cup the breast reulting in
sore/cracked nipples.
You could try the brush down attachment technique recommened by Glover.
Ask if anyone else in the family has had tongue-tie as it tends to
familiar.The baby may need to have a frenectomy .According to Marmet & Shell
(1984) suck training may be required to teach the baby to move it's tongue
forward.
