Dear Lactnetters,
       I have been off of lactnet for months and months, I'm ashamed to say,
but have a question for which I'm hoping some of you will have an answer.
       In the spring of 2000, there was a thread about stringly, globby milk.
 The general concensus was that this was most likely related to chronic
mastitis, and often, the mothers had had recurrent plugged ducts.
       What do you think about a mother who is pumping for a premie, has had
symptoms of neither plugs nor mastitis, and who expresses milk into bottles
with nothing unusual to note? Within minutes of expression, she transfers the
milk from the bottles to collection containers and notices that the milk is
in globs.  As far as she could tell, it sprayed out into the bottles while
pumping, and she did not note any strings or 'globs' while expressing.
       The staff is wondering a) what is this?! and b) is it ok to feed the
baby?  Of course they turned to the lactation staff, expecting we would have
a ready answer...
