Never try to teach a toddler who was cup-fed as an infant how to use a
sippy cup. They just don't "get" that, either! It took me a while to
realize that my dd really wanted the lid off, and I figured it out
because she found her medicine cup in her basket of toys. She learned to
drink from a regular plastic tumbler by herself somewhere in the early
part of her second year, which was the first time I felt that it might
be the right time to give her fluids in artificial containers. (She also
ate soup with a spoon around that time, but that is OT -- unless it is
proof of a bf baby's brilliance...) Yet another victory for the
"the-less-gimmicky-
the-better" school of thought, although I admit that lids are practical
in the car.
Jo-Anne, continuing WBW celebrations by preparing for her dd's second
birthday)
