Regarding the second nine months of life I would recommend as an
excellent read for this subject Dr. Stephen Jay Gould's essay,
originally appearing in _Natural History_ but also found in his
collection _Ever Since Darwin_, called "Human Babies as Embryos."  One
of my favorite reads!
