As for my part of the U.S., we are seeing this more and more. Between the
rising c-section rate, aggressive IV antibiotic treatment of postive
Strep B cultures, etc, a lot of women end up with yeast. And since they
don't always recognize the symptoms right away, it can get out of hand
easily. Add to that our diet high in sugars, both natural and artificial,
and high in milk, a great yeast fueler, and you have the recipe for a
high incidence of "systemic" yeast. I say "systemic" because puritans
would interpret that as throughout the whole body; some of us in the
lactation business use that to refer to the ductal yeast invasion of the
breast. It definitely seems to be on the rise here....
