so funny you should ask this today, as i just now picked up the latest copy
of Leaven (Dec/Jan), having lost it for a few weeks, unread. In it there
is an elightening (to me at least) article about just this topic, titled
"Preoperative Fasting: Guidelines for Breastfed Infants and Children." I
can quote from it if you don't have access, and think it would be helpful -
just let me know! IT is chock full of info, including the ASA (society of
anesthesiologists) current guidelines, information on aspiration risks and
severity of risk depending on what is aspirated, findings from various
studies, and lots of primary references, where you might find even more
depth info. Perhaps the author is even on Lactnet? The author is Sue Iwinski.
