Hi all,
Got an abstract of this article on one of my medical digest lists...just
tracked down the full text article, available via the following URL:
http://jama.ama-assn.org/issues/v286n7/rpdf/joc01896.pdf
The title of the article is, "Exposure to Soy-Based Formula in Infancy and
Endocrinological and Reproductive Outcomes in Young Adulthood". The
conclusion is: "Exposure to soy formula does not appear to lead to different
general health or reproductive outcomes than exposure to cow milk formula.
Although the few positive findings should be explored in future studies, our
findings are reassuring about the safety of infant soy formula."
Now for the "other shoe": In the financial disclosure section of the
article: "The Fomon Infant Nutrition Unit receives research grants from and
conducts clinical trials funded by Ross Products Division, Nestle, and Mead
Johnson Nutritionals. Dr. Ziegler has received honoraria for speaking from
the same companies, mostly in continuing education settings."
But how many health professionals read past the abstract/conclusion to
determine who PAID for these results????!!!!
Not-so-smiling,
Carol
