we have a momma cat with 12 week old kittens that are almost weaned. they
significantly reduced their nursings in the last 3 weeks. they are more
active and momma cat less patient. btw the vet i took her to see for
vaccinations and spaying would not consider spaying her until the kittens
had been weaned for at least 2 weeks. she stated that "i" needed to make
sure that they were weaned by 6-8 weeks old. i told her that i would let
nature run its course, that i would not force wean the kittens. she said
that every cat she had seen that nursed past 10 weeks had ended up with
mastitis. i think i ended up educating her about gradual weaning. she
spayed momma cat yesterday, all went well and she commented that momma cat
still had some milk and that it had not been a problem at all. we'll see if
either momma cat or kittens are interested in nursing this evening.
