Joan, if you would prefer to avoid full strength St. John's Wort, there is
homeopathic (highly dilute) St. John's Wort, sold under its Latin name,
Hypericum Perfoliatum. Although for post-partum depression (PPD), Miranda
Castro (in her book, Homeopathy for Pregnancy, Birth and Your Baby's First
Year), mentions Cimicifuga, Natrum Muriaticum or Pulsatilla and others as
more likely choices for PPD. The Van Zandvoort and other repertories that
I'm looking in list several more. A professional homeopath would be very
helpful here, since an individualized history is needed to determine the
optimal remedy. Without re-opening a can of worms thread from a couple of
weeks ago, a number of safe and effective alternatives to SSRI's exist
for "mild to moderate PPD." I can't overemphasize the benefit of a
professional homeopath over self-prescribing for such a patient if a
homeopathic remedy is being considered.
