I was out in the car 1/2 an hour away from home the other day with my
husband, and I think probably due to the air conditioning in the car,
his contact lens dried up and ended up on his upper cheekbone under his
eye (fell out).  He picked it up, and by the time he'd figured out which
way it went (inside out, outside in, etc.), it was sticky, grimey, and
dusty.  :-(  We were still 15+ minutes from where we were going to...no
pharmacies on route...what to do for this contact.  Well, what else?
Whip out a boob, squirt some sterile milk on it, and pop it back into
his eye!  ;-)

Just a note though...a friend (also a nursing mom) who is an optician
suggested that one be careful with this type of treatment of contact
lenses to clean them well after use, and really make sure one does the
protein elimination stuff on them (i.e. not keep that same contact in
for a week if they're long-wear ones).  These were throw-away ones (good
only for one day) so that doesn't apply.  The treatment worked like a
charm, didn't irritate his eyes, and he was able to see in order to
continue driving.  :-)
