according to Riordan/Aerbach 2nd ed: " Whenever glucose feedigns are offered tothe neonate, wheather routinely or to resolve a problem, such as hypoglycemia, the healthcare worker needs to be mindful of the harmful effects such feedings have tonthe infants interest in bf and efective suckling at the breast. unless non human milk is used, any fluid (sterile water or gluclose)that is substituted for bf will result ina lower calorie feeding and subsiquent earlier greater weight lossthan is likely to occur from colostrum to mature milk feedings. sucha reduction in caloric intake must be considered a risk and avoided if possible.: pg 289-291
