Christ Betzold asks: << rate of hospitalization for the breastfed child is
5/1000 compared
to 77/1000 for the formula fed infant. Is any one aware of where he
published this study? If not can anyone give me some contact info for
him?>>
The citation is Cunningham AS. Morbidity in breastfed and artificially fed
babies. J Pediatrics 1979, 95: 685 - 689.
He found that formula fed babies were hospitalized 15 times more often than
breastfed in the first four months of life in Cooperstown, NY.
Dr Alan Cunningham is now retired, I believe.
