Pat, what a wonderfull story!
It made me realise for the first time that my father experienced somewhat
the
same with my firstborn. My fathers children were born in the 40s/50s (me
being the last in '56) and he never attended very closely. He intended to
film my birth, but wasn't allowed in at the moment supreme. He was a loving
father, but as fathers in that era, a bit at a distance. My firstborn was
his
5th grandchild and now he finally made it with his filmcamera and didn't
leave my side from the start of labour (dr used his filmlight to stitch :-)
). My daughter has always been his favorite (not shown in gifts or hugs to
the others!), he kept telling me that she was really the most beautifull
baby
he'd ever seen.
