Re: not calling things by their name: If we were an e-list of parents, I'd
perhaps agree. But this is a professional list and I find it hard to
understand why scientists, practitioners, and policy people must talk in
code. We are trying to analyze information not obfuscate it. If I want to
criticize, praise, or describe a specific product or company, or recommend
an improvement, I feel obligated to be direct and take responsibility for my
remarks. I know that the list rules are unclear to many, who assume they
must use H------- or M--- when they want to say 'Holister' or 'Mead'. If
the naming of a specific company seems unnecessary to the point I am trying
to make, I use the generic, i.e. 'follow-on formula' or 'feeding tube
device' . Perhaps the list mothers would care to comment? I shall, of
course, defer to their guidance.
