Claudia,
I am a hospital-based LC (I also have a private practice).
I work with 3 other L.C.s. We work 6 days a week including holidays.
Our hours are 9:00 - 1:30. We can sometimes go over our allocated
4 1/2 hours but this is frowned upon. I often work 6 hours but only get
paid for 4/12.

We carry pagers so ER, NICU, and L&D can call us for a consult.
We answer phones and make follow -up calls. We see all patients on the
floor (between 15 - 26).
The OB or Ped, RN or Mother herself can request a consult. These patients
are seen first. If a RN states that a mom has chosen to give ABM we may
skip that patient,
depending on how busy we are. Though I try to at least instruct them in
bottle/formula feeding.

We see around 350 pts. a month. We have a once a month breastfeeding class,
once a week breastfeeding support group meeting and a clinic. Any of our
patients
can come and see us for a free 45 min. consult. When we don't have consults,
we make follow-up phone calls to the majority of our maternity patients.
Usually around 20 phone calls each clinic. Clinic is run by one L.C. for
3 hours - 3x a week. We are all hoping to get our hours increased but I have
an idea it won't happen right away!
