Good Day Wise Ones,
I need some input as to why a 4 week old baby would be crying during
feedings. Baby was two weeks early and was delivered with forceps. Initial
breastfeeding was reported to go well. The crying at the breast began two
and half weeks ago (general fussiness was reported too). I searched the
archives and found the following to be possible reasons for a baby to be
fussy at breast. Over/under supply problems, yeast, poor latch, allergy to
dairy and birth trauma. Baby takes expressed breastmilk fine from a bottle.
Baby was initially given formula but that was discontinued. Baby lost about
2 1/2 ounces in 3 days. My main question is: Would birth trauma from forceps
show up two weeks following the birth?
This baby was seen by a IBCLC on Friday, initial findings suggested a
foremilk imbalance. Latch is good and mom gave up dairy. Mother however,
says she is not leaking milk and baby does not seem to be choking at
letdown.Perhaps something else is going on? Thankfully there are three LC's
one being a MD assisting this mom and playing detective. Any wisdom would be
very appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Mary Anderson.
