I don't know about the rest of South Africa, but when I worked at a hospital in Cape Town, the moms were *routinely* given motilium (domperidone) on Day 1. I hated the message that this sent, that their bodies were "unlikely to do the right thing", and I was also concerned about them being sent home within a day or two with no follow up. Voicing my concerns to the superintendent got the stuff banned from the hospital entirely, for at least a while, which was not my intent. Perhaps the doctor concerned is still cursing me.....
