Dear Lacnetters,
As breast cancer seems to come up quite a bit on this list I thought I would
mail the title of a book I've just seen reviewed in the BMJ. It sounds
interesting, but I haven't read it so can't really voice an opinion:
The Breast Cancer Wars: Hope, Fear, and the Pursuit of a Cure in
Twentieth-Century America. Barron H Lerner
http://bmj.com/cgi/content/full/323/7304/115
It's published by Oxford University Press - ISBN 0 19 514261 6 .
I'd also like to add that I don't have any financial link to the book. I
just want to pass on info, which is what this list is about.
With regards to pumps, I think its great that someone like Katheleen is
doing what she is doing with Medela. Why not? - having someone with the
right knowledge can only strengthen the help mothers need with expressing
milk. What if everyone turned their backs on commercial pump companies -
where would the expert knowledge come from then (formula companies???). I
think credit should also be given to the fact that mothers are also capable
of making up their own minds?
I also wonder how 'financial disclosure' would be of any use to anyone?
Sara Bernard
