Just another research cohort of 1 - me! After the birth of my first baby I
wasn't able to sit up without fainting for 12 hours and walked no further
than to the shower for 2 days. Nobody mentioned my loss as being
particularly heavy. It wasn't until on the second day when I was sitting
in bed musing to myself about how my skin colour matched perfectly the
pristine white hospital sheets and mentioned it to one of the nurses that
they did a haemoglobin. The doctor was rather keen to do a blood
transfusion at that time, but I declined.
Breastfeeding was going beautifully and I continued to have gallons of milk
for months and months and months - a definite oversupply!
Actually I lied about the breastfeeding going beautifully - my nipples were
very sore. I have a lovely photograph of him breastfeeding, lying flat on
his back head turned over his shoulder to attach to the nipple. And I was
a midwife at the time!! That was 20 years ago - I've improved my skills a
tad since then :-)
