I am woefully behind on Lactnet but am responding the the ? re; relactating
for a formerly lactating mother of a 10mth old.
One aspect that I haven't seen discussed yet is one of probably the most
concern at this point, getting a 10mth old to change from a bottle to the
breast. Having had the experience of going a week without nursing my 16mth
old then trying to latch him awake without success, he truly *forgot* how to
do it, I waited till he was half asleep, put the nipple in his mouth and he
latched fine. I would suggest the same for her but would also make sure there
was some milk there first, not necessarily a full supply but at least a few
days of pumping and giving him it through a bottle to familiarize him with
the taste.
If he still refuses to latch, a nipple shield might help the transition.
