Hello Everyone,
I was just reading Heather Shelley's post about engorgement. I was called to see a mother last week with engorgement.
I contacted the Granny to bring cabbage leaves, pumped the mother with very little success even though I had massaged her breasts very gently. Whilst waiting for Granny with the leaves, I used the infra-red light on her nipple, as she said they were sore. After 5 minutes the breast started to leak milk. Later the other breast started. We left the light on and let the breasts leak. The mother said that her breasts felt much better after using the light. A brand new experience to me but one I will take note of. I have had great success treating sore and inflamed nipples with infra-red light.
Sincerely,
Barbie Currie. IBCLC. Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
