A few years ago, 1999, our consortium wrote to the American Cancer Society
to
ask that they include more prominently the benefits of breastfeeding
including reduction in breast cancer rates and the reply we received stated
that because there was inconclusive data regarding protective effects
against
BF that the Amer Cancer Soc was not in a position to promote BF as method
for
preventing breast cancer.
Granted this was 3 yrs ago and more recent studies have been done like the
one in China but it seemed there was no budging their stance and we heard
from their chief executive officer. If you'd like more info please email me
privately as I don't want to quote too much directly from the letter I have.
Interesting when the ADA (Amer Diabetes Assoc) had at that time made a broad
statement about breastfeeding reducing risk of juvenile diabetes-type 1-and
if I recall correctly, published it, and yet ACS wouldn't do so.
