Mom's own pumped milk is first choice.
Pasteurized donor human milk is second choice.
Elemental formula (Alimentum, Nutramigen, Pregestimil) is 3rd choice because:
It tastes terrible and babies prefer breastmilk.
It is very expensive, so parents do not want to continue to buy it.
It reduces bilirubin faster than standard cow's milk formula.
It is DIFFERENT from routine formulas, making the point that the
supplementation is TEMPORARY.
