Hi Sara,
you write;
>>What bothers me most about this article is the implication that
breastfeeding mothers would choose to use DHA-enriched formula to supplement
their "DHA-deficient" breastmilk. If, indeed, US women are eating
DHA-deficient diets (and that may be), then the obvious solution for me
would be to have the mothers eat more DHA-rich foods, thus increasing the
amount of DHA in their breastmilk. Is that too obvious or what?<<

I agree and well said!! I also resent the science behind the implication that
because US women's breast milk is lower in DHA that they are putting their
baby at a disadvantage to one bottle fed the fortified formula. Show me the
science that sais this is true!!! Any "scientist" that would make such
statement has no business in the field never mind as the quoted expert and
any journalist that lacks the training to evaluate such a claim before print
shouldn't be reporting!! ARGHHHH!!
There is no way that I could even glance at that Martek site!
BTW, Where does ILCA come in, when claims such as this are made? Do we have
the capacity to offer an "official" response and/or the clout to have someone
care?
