Blue john is cow's milk with all the fat removed -- for the purpose of making
butter. It's an old country term. But I have heard my grandmother apply it to
foremilk, which looks much the same -- bluish, very thin, and watery. Her own
mother told her that she could not breastfeed, because she had "nothin' but blue
john."
