Elisheva asks about whether human milk increases mucus production the way
cow's milk and other dairy products are said to.
I don't know, but I do know that human milk has anti-inflammatory qualities
in addition to the anti-infective qualities, so that getting it on an
irritated mucous membrane would be soothing. Also, whatever virus is
infecting the baby, the mother is likely to be producing antibodies to it
and the first ones go into the milk.
So breastfeeding a child with a cold is the right thing to do.
Besides, if human milk were a big mucus producer, would we not expect
totally breastfed babies to be congested and mucusy (yuck) all the time?

just my 30 ml.
