Hi there...one last post before ILCA (well maybe not the last)... I have the
permission of the moms to post this to you.
I just returned from our local hospital for the birth of the triplets (who
had been down at at our regional referral center for several weeks while mom
was on bedrest). The girls were born at 36 weeks gestation around 8 am with
Apgars of 8 and 9 for two of them and slightly lower for the third. They
were briefly taken off O2 but then had to go back under the hood (that is
controversial bec I think more skin to skin would have overcome it). The
pedi wouldn't okay bf until they were off o2 even though I agreed to hold an
O2 mask by the babies while they were at breast. Unfortunately they have
had dextrose via tube already, but everyone is doing reasonably well.

I encouraged the moms' pumping and now at least the girls are getting the
combo of milk from "Adoptive mom" (yes, she has milk--the induction with
domperidone and pumping for one month is working to the point where she now
is pumping a few ounces at a time) and colostrum from the biologic mom. The
birth mom is already starting to become engorged and is very tired. I'll go
back up tonight, but have a dentist appt soon. The hospital has no LC from
this afternoon on (the newly certified floor IBCLC's last day was today).
This is very exciting (I've only helped two members of the same nuclear
family bf twice before) and they are a wonderful family. This is big news
for our town of 50,000 and there were reporters there as well as many
supportive friends.

I'll keep you 'abreast'.

Warmly,
Chris
