The hidden risk is probably the theoretical possibility of getting HIV.
However, if the blood is checked in your country as in US that is a VERY
slim chance of receiving contaminated blood. (there is a theoretical window
between getting virus and having it show up in blood tests, blood given in
this window could infect the person who receives it. ) When I had a low hgb
after surgery the dr sent me home on extra iron and told me that young women
usually bounce right back with good diet and some extra iron - which I did.
If the iron isn't all that low after delivery I'd tell dr thanks, but no
thanks - no transfusion. If it is dangerously low, take the transfusion and
