Just wanted to add some information about how LLL views toddler nursing
or the question of duration of breastfeeding to Katherine Dettwyler's
post that

> support for mothers who nurse toddlers and beyond, and there are several
> books on this topic as well.

The experience of many LLL members is that hcp may or may not provide
support, that their families may or may not provide support, but that
LLL always provides good support for nursing toddlers through telephone
helping, meetings and literature (like Mothering Your Nursing Toddler,
How Weaning Happens, Biocultural Perspectives). Groups and regions
differ in the prevalence of bf children over 4 or 5, but usually someone
at a meeting knows someone who has. This is not a well-advertised fact,
however, because it is inappropriate to focus on how long someone has
breastfed at an LLL meeting. Individual Leaders, who bf longer than the
average duration, do not make a practice of mentioning this at meetings,
because it would be negative to suggest that a certain duration was "not
good enough" or was "long enough". As Katherine D. also wrote,

> No one to my knowledge has ever suggested that you need to feed "for so
> long to get benefits."

Leaders are committed to meeting mothers where they are and to
supporting breastfeeding forever long it lasts. It becomes almost
automatic to say "Isn't it great that you were able to nurse for ....
years, months or even days..."
