I am a hospital breastfeeding nurse and will sit for the IBCLC exam this
year. I have been reading Lactnet for several months but this is my first
posting and I hope I do it right! I was asked today about a newly delivered
mother who has been diagnosed with ringworm on her breasts and is to start
Lotrimin cream. I have not seen this mother yet and wanted to search this
topic before doing so. Her baby is in NICU. I have searched the archives
but didn't find much, except that it may take a long time to clear up. I
know there are various opinions about using expressed milk during a thrush
outbreak. How about with ringworm? Will her pumped milk be OK to save for
her baby? Should she boil her pump parts daily, etc., as with thrush? I am
at work and have searched various internet sites and my resource books but
have not found out the answers I need today! Thanks to all!
