"They are very surprised when I explain that I can help them
ACTUALLY, =
> not VIRTUALLY, breastfeed!"
Patricia, I love this sentence! It says so much!
"We must need to put more effort into "marketing" the joys of =
> breastfeeding, not just the tools and techniques."
I don't even show breastpumps in my breastfeeding classes anymore.
Nor do I display breast shells, lanolin, books or any other equipment. I
always found at the end of the class that I had forgotten to mention them
anyway! (My subconscious was watching out for me, I guess.) I try to keep
the information and the priorities simple. I use some of the tear off sheets
from M_____ on sore nipples, engorgement, etc. And I have compiled a list of
different sites around the city (very large geographical area) that rent
and/or sell pumps, accesories, etc. that people can take if they are
interested. But I have my cards available as well and I suggest that they
call me first to discuss their thoughts and goals when they get to the point
that they're thinking about a pump. (I am a hospital based LC and do not run
a rental station, nor am I affiliated with any.)
