dear Lactnetters,
i hope this is not considered off topic, but it was of interest to me so i
thought i would share it with you. this mom gave me permission to share this
with you. it is about precocious puberty. i don't know if anyone is in a
position to "address this" but perhaps it might be beneficial. something in
new beginnings to moms might be nice, and if there is anyone interested in
addressing it, please let me know privately as i am no mail.
warmest regards,

she writes:
Hi all-
I am a former breastfeeding mom who was so thankful to have LLL in my life-
and still continue to try and keep and eye out for misinformation. <snip>
I was reading an article in Ft. Worth Child today that caused some concern.
The article is in this month's (June) issue and unfortunately I could not
find a link online. The focus of the article is precocious puberty- of
interest to me because they use Lupron to treat it <snip> There is no
mention of BF until the last paragraph which is: But with a trip to the
doctor every 25 days, Mary's parental concerns continue. "While noone knows
what causes precocious puberty," she says, "I can't help asking myself if
breastfeeding Janie when my hormones where all out of whack could have had an
effect. Did I somehow pass it on?"
The quote continues, but with no reference with what the heck she is talking
about. Did she have precocious puberty? Is she referring to the normal
post-pregnancy hormones? Nothing is explained- but the new mom who can't
quite decide whether to BF or not might use this to reason against it.... I
am not exactly sure what to write to FWchild to question this, and I thought
you ladies might have a better idea... not to mention better info/firepower.
Please let me know if I am getting bent out of shape for nothing, but the
suggestion that precocious puberty might be linked to breastfeeding bugs me.
