Amen to that Jay Gordon! Soy has it's troubles, but most Americans don't
weigh it against what they would think the alternative is.... cow's milk,
etc.
On a side note, since I have become totally and completely dairy free, as
have my children, you would not believe the difference in attitudes,
appetites and just the general tone of things in our house. We've been
free for over a month now and we no longer crave it. My kids have rice milk
on their cereal if they want cereal, but we have tofu in smoothies, with
pastas, etc., they eat eggs for fats/proteins, nut butters, etc. And of
course the two youngest are still getting mommy milk. I can't remember who
here it was, either Chris or Jennifer, that said the only thing a child
needs other than breastmilk is water. That is so right. And for those
wondering how healthy cutting out the dairy can be for mom... well let's
just say I am over weight, I have lost in one month almost 20 pounds, I am
convinced it's because of the dietary changes, meaning no cow!! I certainly
haven't stopped eating peanut butter or almond butter, I haven't stopped
indulging on ice cream (Soy Delicious, non-dairy) and up until about a week
ago, I was still consuming beef on a regular basis. So even though the
dairy debate isn't one for lactnet, let's just say that thinking any child
needs a milk other than breastmilk is just plain wrong. At least with very
rare exceptions!
