This reminds me of what the pediatrician told my mother 37 years ago, when
she was almost the only breastfeeding mother in town.  "You have a choice.
You can impose a schedule on your newborn, and she'll adhere to it, more or
less, by around three months of age.  Or you can let her do what she wants,
and she'll fall into some schedule, more or less, by three months of age."

I'm wary of quoting this to new mothers because I don't want them to fixate
either on the word schedule or on the number 3 months.  But the underlying
wisdom, that babies do what they are ready to do, does still seem true to me.
