Hi, Just a quick reintroduction...I am a hospital based IBCLC in Pekin,
IL...it has been quite a while since I have posted but I had a new one today
and need help!

I have a new mom who just delivered and will be returning to work in 2
months. She is a welder...not a profession I have stumbled across before!
Anyway, she wants to know if the chemicals she works with are okay to be
around while she is breastfeeding. She gave me the MSDS sheet on one of the
chemicals and the chemical's trade name is L-56. She was around it for 4
months into her pregnancy before finding out that it is known to have caused
birth defects in California. The doctors here assured her that Illinois
must be much different than California and her baby would be fine but she
switched to working in the office area.

Anyway, I wanted to see what I could find out...this baby has many Down
Syndrome markers and mom says she can continue working in the office if she
needs to. If her baby does have Downs, it will be hard to convince her that
those chemicals are not dangerous...

So...does anyone have experience with welding?

Thanks much,
Beth Seidel, IBCLC
Pekin, IL
