Our department has recently had workshops regarding the patient privacy
parts of HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Protection Act). One
feature is strict guidelines regarding giving out of ANY medical info
without consent, even , for example, whether a person is your patient or is
currently in the hospital, etc. It occurs to me that under this act,
hospitals and physicians would now be forbidden to sell their maternity
registration lists to formula companies. Perhaps Liz Baldwin could comment?
