Someone wrote about anti-depressants:

"Sadly what you describe-the psychiatrist just writing out the paper for the
pill- is becoming more common."

Isn't it true that any MD/OD can write a prescription for any drug for
anyone for any reason?  The podiatrist can write a prescription for prozac,
as can the dermatologist, the ear/nose/throat specialist, the oncologist,
the cardiologist, or the urologist, right?  Pediatricians can write
prescriptions for adults, obs can write prescriptions for children, etc.  No
one checks to see if the disease the drug is for matches the medical
specialty of the MD, do they?  I wouldn't worry quite as much if it was just
the psychiatrist handing out prozac prescriptions and telling people to go
away and be happy (instead of giving counseling and follow-up care).  What
scares me is that ANYONE can write prescriptions for prozac if their patient
seems sad about anything.
