Tabers makes it clear that frenum is a generic term and frenulum lingae
is the specifically correct term for this structure.
From Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary-
frenum -A fold of mucous membrane that connects two parts, one more or
less movable, and serves to check the movement of this part. (see
frenulum)
frenulum linguae-Fold of mucous membrane that extends from the floor of
the mouth from the interior surface of the tongue along its midline.
